Interior Style

10 Nov

Winter is around the corner and with the cold months enveloping the North East, many of you will occupy yourselves with home improvements. Now you already know that I am a big proponent of finding individual, unique style. That being said, sometimes people have a pretty true aesthetic that they like to keep to. I recently found a great, quick reference guide in Real Simple magazine that  is really helpful to those in the throes of decorating their new condo (particularly those that don’t know where to turn first!)

In summary, the article suggests that there are 4 core styles: Sophisticated Classic, Modern Graphic, Cozy Casual and Vintage Eclectic. It lists “go to” stores for each of these design aesthetics. There are, of course, also great shops that cross styles. Here is a cheat sheet:

Sophisticated Classic: Baker, Ballard Designs, Barbara Barry, Bernhardt, Darryl Carter for Thomasville

Modern Graphic: CB2, Design Within Reach, Ikea, Jonathan Adler,

Cozy Casual: Crate & Barrel, Libeco Home, Maine Cottage, Pine Cone Hill, Pottery Barn

Vintage Eclectic: ABC Home, Anthropologie, Brocade Home, John Derian, Lars Bolander

Cozy/Sophisticated: Ethan Allen, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Ralph Lauren, Williams-Sonoma Home

Sophisticated/Modern: Interieurs, Room & Board, Vivre

Modern/Vintage: Elizabeth Bauer, Karkula,, Madeline Weinrib, West Elm

Vintage/Cozy: Horchow, Jayson Home & Garden, Restoration Hardware, Shabby Chic

Hopefully you find this info useful – I know I did!
