Oh the Glamour!

28 Feb

I love watching the Oscar’s. Although the program can be a bit long, it’s generally a glamorous, old-fashioned good time. This year I cringed far too much (clunky opening by our two too-young co-hosts, F-bomb dropped by newcomer Melissa Leo, awkward moments with Kirk Douglas…there were quite a few “Oh my” moments) but watching the red carpet and (some) of the acceptance speeches made it worth my time.

What were some of my favorite looks on the red carpet?

I was head-over-heels in love with Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy dress

Mila Kunis rocked her lavender, lacy Elie Saab dress

Gwenyth Paltrow shined in her metallic Calvin Klein number

Halle Berry looked stunning in her Marchesa crystal gown

Aside from some boob spillage, Jennifer Hudson wins for best color – loved how vibrant she looked!

Who was I disappointed in? Reese Witherspoon looked dull and a bit 90s, Penelope Cruz wore an ill-fitting dress (I know she just had a kid a few weeks ago but come on…), Amy Adams sported a near mock turtleneck neckline with large jewels and Nicole Kidman looked like she was wearing a shiny curtain from the 80s. Some people were just plain dowdy too such as Florence Welch who looked like she was going on a 19th century picnic. What a waste…

Missed the Oscars? CNN has a great round-up of the event. Really only curious about the fashion? View the Fashion Police slideshow on E!  for all of the best (and some of the worst) red carpet looks.  Glamour has a nice feature on the best hair and make-up.

Dying to buy a look-a-like of one of the dresses you saw on Oscar night? Keep your eye on ABS who often debuts a line of like-style dresses in the Spring – just in time for prom.
