Trending for Fall…

30 Sep

There are certainly a lot of new color palettes and beauty trends out there this fall. I am a huge fan of the harvest colors and have actually incorporated a little more red into my wardrobe (see below). As for beauty trends, I won’t be doing the whole powdered complexion, nude lip and high hair thing but I am loving the dark lips, dramatic eyes and long hair. I wish I could score some chunky bangs too but my fine, limp hair won’t allow me to. What trends will you be sporting? Check out this little visual tour of runway trends from In my opinion much of the runway isn’t realway but it definitely serves as inspiration!

As for my red pieces…

You already know about my fab Rebecca Taylor dress

I bought a really cute red cape at Forever 21 (channeling Little Red Riding Hood, clearly)

I got this red blouse by Joie at Milly & Grace in Nantucket (one of my fave ACK shops)

And a new red lipstick – Vintage Red by Bobbi Brown

That’ll do for now.

What I’ve Bought for Fall (so far…)

21 Sep

Summer is over and Fall is here! If this year is anything like last year we’ll only have a few weeks of autumnal weather before it dives into a long, dark wintery mess. So…time to enjoy some suede, lightweight sweaters and trench coats while we still have time. I’m still fighting to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight so my fall shopping has not included any pants (yet) but I have already gotten a few great things. I call this entry “so far…” because there is a necessary part 2 in my future.

What I’ve bought:

This Rebecca Taylor dress will be great for day or night

LOVE this Karen Millen sweater dress – it’s snug but still work appropriate

This leopard belt adds the right amount of animal print to an outfit

This sweater has just the right amount of sparkle. Love the olive color

These blue wedge shoes are fun – the color is subtle so I feel like they will get a lot of wear

This DVF blouse is so pretty – I got it in blue AND green

This shirt from Ann Taylor fits so well – super flattering

Don’t ignore Talbots this season…I went in and got this great belt (in Eucalyptus) and these bright heels (teal suede, baby!)

A classic tweed blazer is a must! I just ordered this one from Boden

And now for a new bag…

Best Places to Shop – Nantucket

7 Sep

Nantucket is a fabulous place. It’s a pretty island 30 miles south of Cape Cod that harbors beautiful beaches, great restaurants, an inspired arts community and really good shopping. We’ve had a few rainy days here so I was motivated to kick the beach and hit the town to check out the shops. For a small place there are a lot of shops in Nantucket. Quite a few of these shops should be passed by as they are obviously geared towards tourists (shops that carry Pandora “like” charms or forty types of Nantucket tee shirts). Those shops aside, there are a lot of interesting, pretty boutiques. Here are some of my favorites on island:

Coastal – This is a very cool home furnishings shop that carries a mix of modern and antique pieces that reflect coastal living. Clean lines, a lot of white and a lot of wood and wrought iron can be found here. I am dreaming of the light brown suede chaise lounge in the window…
7 South Beach Street

Milly & Grace – This is one of my favorite new (ish) boutiques on the island. Owner Emily Ott stocks her shop with a great mix of pretty home accessories, bright jewelery and stylish frocks. I bought a beautiful toss pillow for my bedroom and this Rebecca Taylor dress. 2 Washington Street

In the Pink/Shift – I am a fan of Lilly Pulitizer – I think the designs are fun and bright and perfect for summer. That being said, droves of bright lemons and monkeys can get a bit old. In the Pink is a Lilly Pulitizer shop that brings more than the traditional prints to bear. Lilly’s style has evolved. Still bright and feminine, she now carries a ton of tailored, modern pieces that go beyond a Palm Beach veranda. For example, I am in love with this party dress and recently picked up this one too. If on island, you should pop into their sister shop “Shift” (which is right next door) to check out some of their great clothing. You’ll find pretty blouses and loads of dresses great for a night out on the town. 5 South Water Street

Erica Wilson– This is a classic shop that carries some unique crafts (needlework, jewelry) and pretty clothing lines. Not for the cheap at heart, Erica Wilson requires a bit of a bigger wallet but if you have a few hundred to spare, you will find a nice bag or dress that will love for seasons to come. I love this Orla Kiely bag that they have in stock… 25-27 Main Street

Current Vintage – Looking for a place to buy a vintage coat and a bottle of wine? Probably not but this is good news if you are. Current Vintage is a unique shop that carries pretty vintage clothing and a slew of fabulous wine. I plan on grabbing something before I leave island…but can’t decide if I need a bat-sleeve blouse or a 1992 Sauvignon Blanc… 4 Easy Street

Belongings – This is one of the best home decor shops on the island – hands down. A little bright and beachy, Belongings carries the best summer-inspired looks. But there is plenty to enjoy for the off-season too. For example, this leather chair is to die for and you can also find some of the prettiest candles, lamps, vases and prints for your home here too. 12 Candle Street

There are plenty of other gems to discover so hop a ferry to Nantucket. The weather is great through the fall!
