Fashion for Change

5 Mar

MB is back with a great short story on how fashion and politics come together. Fashion with purpose – who doesn’t love that?

Politics and Fashion – A Winning Ticket

We all remember that Sex and the City episode where Carrie starts dating the ever so handsome John Slattery (before his days as Roger Sterling on Mad Men… what is the countdown till the premier of Season 4… I digress), right? Carrie channels her inner-Jackie O and combines fashion with politics in a way that First Ladies have done for years. Michelle Obama at the inauguration ball in the white Jason Wu gown… need I say more?

And while a true StyleGirl rarely discusses her political views, she does always discuss fashion and thus I can’t help but gush over Runway to Win, a collaboration launched on February 8 by 27 well-known designers, including Tory Burch, Jason Wu, Rachel Roy, and Vera Wang . These designers each created their own limited edition item in support of President Barack Obama. Check it out

I am lusting after the hemp/cotton circle scarf designed by Monique Péan. The crisp natural and black design (which is in fact a portrait of Barrack)… amazing! I am also a sucker for a canvas tote and the Derek Lam tote does not disappoint.

Whatever your political stance is, please remember the power of your voice. Get involved and VOTE!
