FNO 2012 Boston

6 Sep

I have a hair appointment tonight. It’s a very, very necessary hair appointment. How necessary? Well it’s taking me away from the Fashion’s Night Out activities in Boston so that should tell you something.

If you follow fashion then you know that tonight is the 4th Annual Fashion’s Night Out (FNO). Oh what I would give to be in NYC tonight! It’s a crying shame. That said, Boston did a great job presenting its own FNO  last year and this year it’s bound to be an even bigger crowd pleaser. This after-hours shopping event will feature live music, munchies, cocktails, treats, discounts and so much more! Newbury Street will be closed to traffic, Copley will host a live fashion show, and stores around the city will be celebrating. Unless you have an important hair appointment, I expect you to partake. There is really no other excuse that would take me away from great sales, goodie bags, champagne and the opportunity to dance in the street.

For a full listing of events, participating stores and other FNO Boston activity, check out the event website or their Facebook page which has been streaming updates all day. Kick off fall the right way and enjoy Fashion’s Night Out!

Today’s Sale – Starting at Noon!

29 Mar

Sale starts at 11:00! Sale starts at 12:00! Evening sale! Oh these daily sales! Even though I try not to, I really do love them. Most offer great deals and many offer good customer loyalty programs. A few even have apps for your phone (danger! danger!). These sales make me crazy and they make me poor but they certainly break up the day.

There are so many options out there now. One could argue there are too many. So what sites are worth following?  Which are worth your time? Here is a list of sites that I religiously follow and a note about recent finds I’ve scored on each of them.

Gilt – one of the “original” high-end daily sale spots is still going strong. They expanded their shops so you can shop for everything from bedding to Delman’s. They feature a really good kids shop so I tend to pop in there once a week. They also have a great app – making it very easy to buy things at 11:30 at night while in bed…hmm…
Recent find? Earrings from NYC designer KEP for $100 and a Rock-A-Bye monkey for $79

Rue La La – this site does a great job mixing up inventory. A lot of their women’s apparel sells for under $200 and they are great about featuring all sorts of essentials like good boots, coats, pretty lingerie and great dresses
Recent find? Pretty pink Vince Camuto trench for $79

One Kings Lane – this site features beautiful home goods and accessories. Everything from stools and chairs to towels and leather trays. This is one of my favorite sale sites
Recent find? Ikat blue and white pouf for my son’s nursery – $100

Joss & Main – a runner-up for great housewares. Like Rue La La, Joss & Main carries a more broad array of merchandise offering up things at all prices for all types of buyers. It also features a good home style blog
Recent find? Beautiful bright pillows from Company C to punch up the color in my living room – $50 each

Groupon – one of the originals and still one of the best. You can buy classes, car service, skydiving lessons, dinners, trips and a million more things on Groupon. I personally hit up Groupon for the dining deals. I don’t think they can be beat. You can also purchase deals for a friend (as gifts) and have it emailed to them
Recent find? Three course dinner at Sel de la Terre for two for $40

Bloomspot – this site does a great job at conjuring up local deals – especially those at salons and local boutiques. I also like the navigation – it’s clean and not too overwhelming
Recent find? $175 Gretta Cole gift card for $100

Zulilly – this is one of the best sites for kid gear. They have a lot of sales going on at any one time and they carry everything from clothes to toys to room decor
Recent find? Hunter boots for $35

There are other sites that I keep my eye on: MyHabit (relatively new launch from Amazon.com), Local Amazon (it works like an aggregator), Townpool (deals get better the more that people “jump in”), Living Social (share the deals with friends and the deal gets sweeter!) and Woot (one amazing deal a day). What are a few of your faves?

Happy clicking.
